Sponge
painting: a simple technique!
Sponge
painting gives a grainy effect, by applying little spots
of paint, tapping with a sponge. To obtain an interesting
effect, it is preferable to use a natural sponge, whose
perforations are irregular. Sponge painting means quite
simply applying a plain background and then applying, with
a sponge, another colour, to create a grainy effect. On
walls, we ordinarily use mat acrylic paints which give an
older and more traditonal effect, but nearly all paints
work well, depending on the support. One of the advantages
of this technique is that it is very fast. Often, two similar
colours are used for a soft harmony. You can also choose
contrasting colours.
